Get that Monday feeling…

Posted by Arsenal Hampshire in Daily Column

Oh well, as it happens, Utd never did turn the result around against Blackburn on Saturday evening, and as a direct result, i lost a bloody fiver! (goddamn you 20-1 odds of a united win with 5 mins left!!!!). Is it just me that feels like the Chelsea result against Wigan and then the Utd result at the weekend feels very similar to when you were a lad and having a big kid kicking you square in the balls and running of screaming nah nah, nah nah nah, knowing full well there is nothing you can do about it as he told you earlier that “his dad is bigger than your dad” - Life is unfair, and all us gooners are more than aware of that fact…

Anyway - Back to business. Arsene Wenger has given Matty Flamini til the end of the month to decide what he is doing with his future (i make that 9 days left). Now, anyone that has spent longer than 5 seconds within a 2 mile radius of me will be well aware of my love for the flamster and i think after the season we have just experienced, it would be a huge loss to the team if we fail to keep him in the close season. He has said in the past that he would love to stay with the Arsenal, but he was unable to sort out his contract as he was focusing on playing instead. Well, your currently out injured my little french fella, so if you wouldnt mind putting pen to paper, it would help me sleep at night!

Arsene is also praising young Theo Walcott today describing him as a “man, but not a monster”. OK, its a weird comparison, but it sure beats Mourinho’s “I have supermarket eggs” outburst. Theo has improved vastly this season, when he gets the chance, unfortunately, le boss, seems to prefer Ebuseless ahead of him, but hopefully next season we will see Theo gain his rightful place on the errr, right side of midfield.

Gilberto has spoken out over his future saying he would love to stay with Arsenal and that he will speak with Wenger at the end of the season. Now, i know Bert hasnt been first XI choice this season, but what a great professional he is! He was quite harshly passed over for the captaincy (some sources saying he found out through arsenal.com), now he can hardly get a start for the Arsenal, playing not much more than a bit part role in our season campaign and yet still shows himself as a man full of respect. Maybe Diarra should take note!!! I will say that bert is definately not the player he was, and asked if i would want him at Arsenal next year i would think long and hard and probably say yes, but one thing Wenger seems very good at is knowing when a player is past it (i think he messed up with Bobby “my puma’s” Pires though!!!). If Arsene decides his times up, i will wish him well - afterall, he is a world cup winner.

News from within the club (Arsenal Hampshire - not AFC) is pretty quiet at the moment, but i will try to get an update in the next few days for us all. Im sure the powers that be are currently barracaded in a underground bomb shelter planning the end of season party and the AGM - which over the last few years has proved quite eventful!!!

Until next time Arse-fans

They think it’s all over!!!

Posted by Arsenal Hampshire in Daily Column

As another season draws to the close, most Arsenal fans are left feeling very disappointed at the drastic demise in our form from the glorious period we experienced up until January, and then the form that plagued us from February onwards. Ask 100 fans what went wrong and you get 100 different responses. I though, am staying postive!! OK, it may be lack of sleep, but it isnt over until the fat lady sings!! I seem to be the only person that has remembered that if Man Utd and Chavski lose every game from now until the end of the season, with exception of the game in which they play each other in which they draw!, and we continue to pick up maximum points, we win the league by a 2 point landslide! Hey, its still mathmatically possible…..

Today saw us get back to winning ways at home with a very comfortable 2-0 victory over a struggling Reading. I think the score complimented them more than it did us, what with the fact that we averaged a corner nearly every 4 minutes in the first half! We took the lead after a great first touch from Adebayor took him past the defender and he calmly placed the ball past Marcus Hahnemann. The second came from a long range Gilberto effort, that took a wicked deflection off the laclustre Reading defence, before beating the outstretched palm of the keeper. It could have been so many more… RVP hit the upright with a rocket of a free-kick, Theo hit the bar with a left footed effort from about 12 yards and Adebayor and Song both missed the target with quite simple headers created during 2 of our set pieces awarded during the game. Once again though (and as much as id love to see my above theory come true) it would strike me as being too little, too late. But either way, its good to get back to winning ways and see the season out in style.

News is coming out of the club thick and fast at the moment, and i will cover most of it over the coming days. Obviously we can now look forward to being linked with the world and his wife as the transfer window draws ever closer. Wenger has said that he is after 2 “real quality” players, you can read the article here. I would hope it is a few more than 2 as i wouldnt tar many of our current squad with the same “Real Quality Player” brush.

Anyway, thats your lot for today. I wish everyone a nice weekend, whatever your up too. At this moment in time Utd are losing 1-0 to Blackburn and i cant help but hope Utd turn it around as i would hate to see a certain money grabbing Arsenal reject getting his grubby little mits on the Premiership Crown.

 Until next time Arse-fans……

NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 07

Posted by Arsenal Hampshire in Newsletters

CHAIRMANS LITTLE BIT Hi all, just to let everyone know we didn’t get any response from anyone about the social secretary and merchandise positions from last month, so if anyone is interested in these or interested in helping out in anyway at all don’t hesitate to contact any member of the committee.

Just a reminder to let everyone know that if we progress further in any of the cups and you wish to apply for tickets you have to do so in the usual way within 24 hours of the draw. Leeway will be given if the TV channels can’t make their minds up who’s having which game but it would still be best to register your interest within the 24 hours. While on the subject of booking tickets, if we manage to get to a cup final the game is to be treated as an away game and all ticket orders are to be via Pete Walker.

Everyone’s respect of our rules will be appreciated as you can probably understand this is not our normal daytime jobs, this is done purely as a hobby.

Thanks for reading and see you next month

CHRISTMAS DO

The total amount of money raised from the Christmas do, that is being donated to the Rainbow Centre, was £342. A big thank you to all that participated in the event.

TICKETS

Sorry to keep having to reiterate this info, but should we progress any further in the cup competitions then the procedure is to book your tickets within 24 hours, and payment sent in within 72 hours.

CHELSEA TICKETS

Due to the unprecedented demand for tickets for this match it has been decided that the allocation will be distributed as follows :- Silver members ( only one ticket per silver membership), and for all other members it will be based on the number of games the person applying has attended. Sorry it has to be this way, but we will probably not be able to source any more tickets than our basic allocation for this game.

CLUBLINE

Just to let everyone know the club line gets blocked once it has 15 minutes of messaging left on it, but does get listened to/ cleared down every evening. If the system is full, please try to leave your message at the earliest opportunity the next day.It would also be a great help when leaving a message that you leave your name!! If you could leave as much information as possible, including your AHSC membership, it would really help when sorting out tickets/ problems.

EMAIL

If you receive this months newsletter by post, but had expected to receive it by email, it means that when we have tried to send it to you previously it has failed to send, possibly due to not having the correct email address, the address not being recognised, the receivers inbox being full etc… If you wish to receive it again by email, or want to start getting it via email, please send a mail to DeanMiles@arsenalhampshire.com or alison.miles2@ntlworld.com . This would be gratefully appreciated, as it cuts down on time spent putting together the newsletter, and keeps club costs down. Also please send an email to this address if you would like to be kept informed of any late availability of tickets.

THE MONTH IN MOMENTS

Tue 2nd jan Charlton (H) 4-0 After the way the last year ended, this was a much needed morale boosting win against a very poor Charlton team. Arsenal were not firing on all cylinders at the start, but with the return of Henry, and a Charlton player sent off, they were able to stroll it.

Sat 6th Jan Liverpool FA cup 3rd round (A) 3-1 The game most people thought we would struggle in, was lit up with two bits of magic from Rosicky, and a wonderful goal from Henry. Arsenal may not have been at their best, but took every chance that fell their way, and bar a minor scare when Liverpool scored, certainly knocked the stuffing out of the red side of Mersey.

Tue 9th Jan Liverpool Carling cup Q/F (A) 6-3 Wow, what a match! With the fixtures coming thick and fast, and Wengers policy in the Carling cup, A very youthful side took to the Anfield pitch. With revenge on their minds, and most of their first team on the pitch, Liverpool must have thought it was a good opportunity to wipe out the FA cup defeat, but how wrong they were!! Baptista and Alliadiere were amazing up front, with the former scoring four goals, and having time to miss a penalty!! Bar Gerrard, you could see the rest of the Liverpool teams heads dropping, and why they didn’t bring on Crouch is a mystery!!

Sat 13th Jan Blackburn (A) 2-0 Back to the league, and the first team in place, and one of the best performances of the season away from home. With Gilberto harshly red carded after twelve minutes, most thought it would be a struggle to gain a point, But Arsenal stuck to playing the game they know best. Two great goals, and a great all round performance.

Sun 21st Jan Man Utd (H) 2-1 This was the sort of game the Emirates was built for, and what a way to show we are still a match for any in the league. With two great saves from Lehmann just before half time it looked slightly ominous, but Arsenal wre giving as good as they were getting. It took a fantastic run, and cross, from Evra, and a bit of help from Toure, for Rooney to put Man U into the lead, but you could feel we were never out of it. After that Man U were literally pinned back in their own half, but the introduction of V. Persie changed it all, and a brilliant, rare, header right at the end from Henry, secured the points for Arsenal.

Wed 24th Jan Tottenham Carling Cup S/F 1st leg (A) 2-2 Back to the Arsenal ’squad’ team for the cup, and with Tottenham having a full strength team out, with this being their only real opportunity of getting into Europe, this looked tough, and so the first twenty minutes proved. In a very open game, Tottenham raced into a two goal lead, albeit the second being a lucky deflection off of Baptista. But these Arsenal youngsters do not know when they are beaten, and really took the game to the opposition in the second half, pinning them back. Baptista showed he is getting used to life with the Gunners with two more well taken goals, and a great save from Almunia, and a spurned opportunity from Walcott, really kept the game on edge until the final whistle.

Sun 28th Jan Bolton FA cup 4th round (H) 1-1 Yes, the bogey team were in town, and it looked a great opportunity to break the spell they have over us at the moment. Unfortunately we did not look at our sharpest for a while, and it took a goal from Bolton to really get us going. It could have been all over a few minutes later but for a brilliant save from Almunia, but eventually Arsenal pushed Bolton back, and got their deserved equaliser. Back to the Reebok on Feb 14th, and lets hope we are playing Blackburn in the next round!

Wed 31st Jan Tottenham Carling cup S/F 2nd leg (H) 3-1 (AET) What a way to end the month, and a cup final to look forward to!! Against a ’full strength’ opposition the team were great, and were superior in most departments. It was only after we scored, and they equalised, that we looked dodgy for a few minutes. But extra time proved who the best team were, with Tottenham quite helpless.

NEWSLETTER JANUARY 07

NEWSLETTER JAN 07

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

OUR ILLUSTRIOUS CHAIRMAN SPEAKS

Happy new year to all. I just wanted to mention a few things this month about a few goings on in our club. First of all I would like to mention about the considerable effort put into organising our Christmas do at the Lee Workies. Stu and Jackie Burns as usual for organising the hall, Dean Miles for advertising it in the newsletter, and collecting the money, and a big thank you to Pete Walker who bought, cooked, transported, and set out all the food for the night which was a really good effort, and a very special thank you to Mike Jewel, who donated numerous items of Arsenal momentos which were raffled and the proceeds will be going to charity. Thanks to everyone for their time and effort.

Just a couple of other things, just to let everyone knowthat our membership currently stands at approximately 340 which is brilliant and will hopefully keep on rising. We are currently looking for a couple of members of our club who would be willing to be social secretary, being involved in the organizing of any social activities, and someone who would be interested in being responsible for the ordering of club merchandise as Tina Harrison has decided to step down, but many thanks to her for her efforts. If you are interested in any of these posts don’t hesitate to contact Dean Miles (our illustrious editor) and he will pass you on to myself, or Stu, to give you more info.

Anyway sorry to bore you to tears with this , and thanks for reading, see you next month.

TICKETS

Although the cut off dates have passed there is still limited availability for the Man City, Wigan, and PSV games. Reading has sold out, but there is tickets available for the remaining games of the season, although for the Chelsea game ( excluding silver members) it will be based on how many games you have attended.

THANK YOU

Stu and Jackie would like to give their thanks to all those who helped do the Christmas party, and a special mention to Maria Chivers, who won the limited edition framed Arsenal picture, and has donated it back to the club to use to raise more money at our next do.

THE MONTH(AND A BIT) IN MOMENTS

Sat 25th Nov Bolton (A) 1-3 Well what do you expect? This is our bogey team, and we fell for the same old tricks/ goals as usual, though, as much as I hate to say it, Anelka did look good. Oh well, there is always next season!

Wed 29th Nov Fulham (A) 1-2 A real low point of the season. I know you should not expect to win every game but traditionally we always do well against Fulham. A tight off side against Henry, Senderos being sent off, and two early Fulham goals meant it was always going to be a struggle.

Sat 2nd Dec Tottenham (H) 3-0 What a way to come back to form! With the loss of Henry before the match many thought we might struggle, but the team, led magnificantly by Gilberto, were awesome. The penalties, and Adebeyors goal were all well taken, and Tottenham had no answer.

Wed 6th Dec Porto (A) 0-0 The team managed to get the result needed, just!! With a bit of luck, and the post, without playing too well, got the point needed, which was not acyually required in the end with the other result going our way. And some people had the audacity to say the result was a fix!!

Sun 10th Chelsea (A) 1-1 What a game! After the Porto game Arsenal came out like a team with the bit between the teeth, and had the luck on their side for a change as well. It was so close to winning the game with the well crafted Flamini goal, and it was typical that Cashley Cow had to be controversially involved in the equalizer. In the end we had hang on to get the point, but it was well deserved.

Wed 13th Dec Wigan (A) 1-0 With the fixtures coming thick and fast this was always going to be a tough one, and so it proved. For their part Wigan played very well, but in the end a well taken Adebeyor goal proved the difference between the teams.

Sat 16th Dec Portsmouth (H) 2-2 I thought divorce was on the cards for me, with my other half being a Pompey season ticket holder, when we fell behind to goals either side of half time!! Luckily we rallied, and as Pompey wilted away once we equalized I thought we were going to go on and win it.

Sat 23rd Dec Blackburn (H) 6-2 What a game!! The final score doesn’t truly reflect the way the game went, and after Blackburn took an early lead it looked like it was going to be another of those frustrating afternoons. Even after going 3-1 up by half time you just knew they were going to get a chance to get back into it, and it was so close to to being 3-3 before they tired at the end, and we slammed in 3 quick goals.

Tue 26th Dec (A) Watford 2-1 We scored early, and it looked like it was going to be a comfortable evening, but as usual the team tried to make it hard for themselves, and it took a classy V. Persie goal to get the three points in the end.

Sat 30th Dec (A) Sheff Utd 0-1 This was the game too far for the team, and the real low point for the season.Yes, it was only one mistake for their goal, but the whole team performance was poor, and it just about summed up the season so far.

UNOFFICIAL TRANSFER NEWS

This publication has heard on the grapevine Arsene Wengers January transfer plans. With haalf the first team now coming back from injury Mr Wenger is keen to sign players for what he calls his ‘treatment table team’. High on his list is Darren Andeton, now spending his time on the Bournemouth injury list. “We seem to be having a lot of players disappearing with long term injuries due to the dirty tactics of opposition teams, and with them coming back to fitness we need to make sure that we have a few cripples to keep the doctors, and physios, busy until the next time the opponents decide to hack our boys” Mr Wenger was heard to say.

THE NEWSLETTER

We do apologize to our readers for the lateness of this months newsletter, but it has been a very hectic month. If anyone is interested in receiving the newsletter by email rather than post, please send an email to DeanMiles@arsenalhampshire.com or alison.miles2@ntlworld.com
